inMovement Competitive Teams

Philly InMovement’s Gymnastics Team consists of gymnasts competing in both the Women’s Developmental Program and Xcel programs. So far we offer W.D.P Levels 2 – 6 and Xcel Silver and Gold. Our gymnasts compete in 2 – 6 competitions a year from December to May. All of our team athletes have shown discipline, internal motivation, a desire to compete and an overall love for gymnastics. Team and Pre-Team practices require a higher level of focus and time commitment with greater emphasis on conditioning and routines than school aged intensive classes. All of these programs are invitation only.

WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM(WPD)

The Women’s Developmental Program (formerly called Junior Olympic or J.O.) was developed with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. In W.D.P., there is a very specific mold that the gymnast is required to fit into, guided by strict requirements. Gymnasts compete in Levels 2 to 10. Once a gymnast is proficient at their level and earn a qualifying score, they have the option to move up to the next level. We also offer an WDP Pre-Team Program.

XCEL

The Xcel Program is an alternative competitive program to the Women’s Developmental Program. It is designed to attract and retain a diverse group of athletes offering alternatives and flexibility to gymnasts and coaches. It provides gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels the opportunity for a rewarding and fun competitive gymnastics experience. Xcel gymnasts compete in the following levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. We also offer an Xcel Pre-Team Program.

What are the key differences between WDP and Xcel?

_____________________________________________________________________

WDP XCEL
  • Higher practice quota during season and summer
  • Heavy focus on basics, shaping, form, flexibility, foundational skills
  • Must possess required skills for each level and score out of each level
  • Compulsory routines for Levels 2-5 (means that every gymnast on the same level does all the same routines/skills to demonstrate proficiency)
  • Optionals are Level 6-10 (gymnasts have their own unique routines)
  • Very structured
  • For gymnasts who want gymnastics to be their primary extra-curricular activity/sport
  • More flexible practice quotas/schedules, varied commitment levels
  • Focus on fun and the ability to make what you want out of the program
  • Works toward having required skills for each level, but more alternatives so there isn’t a specific mold you have to fit
  • Levels: Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond
  • Gymnasts have their own routines (our gym creates a new Silver floor routine each year), Golds receive their own personalized routines
  • For gymnasts who want to be involved with other activities outside of gymnastics

“Philly InMovement is the perfect place to bring your child for gymnastics classes and competition, if so desired.  They teach them not only gymnastics, but also to always try their best, be kind to others, and to listen. The staff are not only amazing gymnasts themselves, but are great teachers as well.  […] I trust them with my child fully.  Overall, I could not have found a better place for my child to take gymnastics.”

Not quite ready for WDP or Xcel? Check out Fast-Track!

Fast-Track is composed of PreTeam and HotShots. It is a growing developmental program designed to progress gymnasts to the competitive team at an accelerated pace. This program is invitation only and offered to students that have demonstrated exceptional skill progression, strength, and work ethic in our regular school aged and Short Wheelers classes. These classes are structured differently than a regular class, and focus on conditioning/strength, shaping, flexibility, form, and discipline. This allows for greater focus on the specific skills each child needs to advance, while also providing additional practice time. For more information on our Fast-Track Programs click here.
